Dharamsala, March 31

The marriage of Thaye Trinley Dorjee, a rival Ogyen Trinley Dorjee, Karmapa recognised by the Dalai Lama and Chinese government, has evoked little response from the Tibetan exiles in Dharamsala.

Lobsang Wangyal, the Tibetan showman, who was recently in news for taking Indian citizenship, said Thaye Trinley Dirjee hardly had any followers here. So his marriage means little to us. For us, Ogyen Trinley Dorjee who has been recognised by the Dalai Lama was the real Karmapa.

The office of Ogyen Trinley Dorjee, who is staying in Dharamsala, has refused to comment over the development. Officials of the Central Tibetan Administration have also refused to comment over the development. However, officials said even earlier when the Dalai Lama had given recognition of the Ogyen Trinley Dorjee, the controversy over was the real Karmapa was settled. However, now that Thaye Trinley Dorjee had given up monkhood and married, he should not be even discussed as Karmapa. — TNS

Controversy

Thaye Trinley Dorjee (33) married his childhood friend RinchenYanzom (36) in New Delhi on March 25. He has announced to continue working as Karmapa even after marriage. However, it remains to be seen if he still gets support of his mentor Shamar Rinpoche.
