Juglan village in the Barwala block here, about 15 km from the district headquarters, has become the first village in the state to have the Wi-Fi internet facility.

INLD parliamentarian Dushyant Chautala has released a grant of Rs 7.5 lakh from his MPLAD funds for the project and roped in the BSNL to establish hotspots to provide free internet Wi-Fi facility in the village.

Dushyant inaugurated the wi-fi services here today. He said the internet has become a necessity and it’s free availability would help people, especially the younger generation, to get connected to the world. He urged people to make an effective and positive use of the facility.

“The number of internet users has been growing in both urban and rural areas. It’s necessary to provide this facility to the village youth so that they don’t lag behind their urban counterparts,” he said.

The MP had to struggle for the implementation of the project, which initially faced hurdles as it was not included in the works to be done under the MPLAD. He took up the issue with the Central government and after which the MPs were allowed to use their allocated funds to set up the Wi-Fi facility in villages and educational institutions.

The BSNL has installed 10 hotspots across the village so that the users could have uninterrupted services. Each Wi-Fi connection will have a range of about 150 metres and it can be accessed on smartphones, laptops, desktops and tabs.

Village youth Rajneesh said the internet was very useful for youths as all necessary information was available on it. Besides social media, the internet facility would help them in getting updates about studies and career guidance, he added.
