An Army jawan was injured in a grenade attack in south Kashmir’s Pulwma district on Thursday evening. The police said a grenade was lobbed by militants towards an Army camp at Kakpora, 20 km from Srinagar, around 9.45 pm. “The grenade exploded inside the camp, injuring a soldier,” the police said. Soon after the incident, the area was cordoned off to trace the attackers.

SPO run over by taxi

A Special Police Officer (SPO) was run over by a Srinagar-bound taxi near the Kowbagh police check-post in Ramban on Thursday.  The deceased, identified as Ishtiaq Ahmed of Kowbagh, was reportedly intentionally run over by taxi driver Tausif Ahmed. When Ishtiaq asked the taxi driver to stop at a check-post around 1.30 am, the driver sped away and mowed down the SPO. Ishtiaq succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital.

‘Shaheedi yatra’ from May 31

On the eve of 300 years of martyrdom of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, a “Shaheedi yatra” will be held from May 31 from Dera Baba Banda Bahadur, Reasi, and will culminate on June 9 at Gurudwara Shaheedi Asthaan, Mehrauli, in New Delhi, National Sikh Front chairman Varinderjeet Singh said on Thursday.  

NGO alleges malpractices

An NGO on Thursday alleged malpractices at Government Press, Srinagar, claiming that a former GM had siphoned off crores of funds during his tenure. State president of the NGO, Anti-corruption, Anti-crime cell and RTI commission, Ashok Kumar claimed that former general manager Husain Qadri was facing an FIR at the Kothi Bagh police station, Srinagar, for pilferage worth Rs 32 lakh from the press.
