Due to security reasons in the aftermath of the Nabha jailbreak, an accused in the Sector 34 bomb blast, Rattandeep Singh, who is lodged in the same jail, could not be brought to a local court for a scheduled hearing today.

According to sources, the security of Rattandeep and other dreaded criminals has been increased.

The court has already framed charges against him under Section 345 of the Explosives Act and Section 307 (murder attempt) of the IPC. The blast in 1999 had injured four persons and damaged several vehicles.

Earlier, the then Inspector, Operation Cell, Jasminder Singh, during his cross-examination, told the court on September 27, 2014, that during interrogation, Rattandeep disclosed that he, along with co-accused Sher Singh and Gurbux Singh (since convicted), had exploded a bomb in the Sector 34 market opposite the passport office.

During interrogation, Rattandeep disclosed that Jasbir Singh had handed him Rs 1,00,000 in Sector 17 for exploding the bomb in the Sector 34 market.
