A state of shock caught the residents of village Rasoolpur after a dead body of the villager was found from the drain passing nearby the village.

The victim had been identified as Gurjant Singh (55), who used to drive a private college bus. The incident came to light when some villagers spotted a body lying in a drain today morning. The villagers informed the Panchayat and police about the incident.

Soon after the information Hathur police reached the spot and took the body in custody. However, the police handed over the body of Gurjant to his family members after conducting a post mortem.

According to sources, there were injury marks of sharp edged weapon on the head of the victim which indicates that he was murdered. The police have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC against unidentified persons on the basis of the statement of victim’s son Satnam Singh.

In his statement to the police, Satnam Singh said his father used to sleep in the college bus sometimes. “Last evening, my father left the house without informing anyone and he did not return till late night. Following this we started searching him. Today morning, some villagers spotted a body in the drain outside the village. When we reached there, we were shocked to see that he was my father”, stated Satnam Singh.

Hathur SHO Onkar Singh confirmed there were some injury marks on the head of the deceased. “We have launched an investigation after registering a case of murder against unidentified persons”, he said.
