Jagmal and Mandeep Kaur emerged winners of the half marathon organised by the state police here today to mark the United Nations Day against Drug Abuse.

The event drew huge participation with tourists joining the event. A total of 2,964 persons participated in the marathon which was jointly organized by the police and Airtel. Personnel from the Army, Border Security Force (BSF) and Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) also participated in the marathon.

The participants ran on the motto “Let us run for a drugs free Himachal”. Around 33 specially abled children also participated. Director General of Police Sanjay Kumar flagged off the marathon. He also ran the three-km Dream Run. He later also gave away the prizes.

The winners in the three categories were:

Half marathon (21.5 km): Men: Winner- Jagmal, first runner up- Harish Ram. Women: Winner – Amandeep Kaur, Ist runer up- Seema.

The winner was given a cash award of Rs 25,000 each and the first runner up Rs 15,000 each.

In the mini marathon category (10 km) men category, the winner was Subhash Chand (Rs 11,000) and Ist runner up- Harsih Koranga (Rs 7,500).

In the women’s category, Kiranjeet Kaur was declared the winner with Parul Chaudhary the first runner up.

Dream Run category:

16 to 30 years: Winners: Male — Sant Ram and Amit Singh. Female - Snoiya Jamwal and Monika Thakur

31 to 45 years: Male - Yashwant Singh and M. Sai Baba.

46 to 60 years: Male - Prem Raj. All of them were given a cash prize of Rs 1,000 each.
