Mohali, April 24

Kin of Tejinderpal Singh, alias Babla, who died yesterday after reportedly falling from the eighth floor of a multi-storeyed residential complex, have alleged that it was a murder.

“They (the police) pushed him from the eighth floor and my son died,” said Kamlesh Kaur, mother of Babla. She said the police did not even mark the area where her son fell. According to the police, Babla had fallen from the eighth floor of the Emaar MGF Housing Society building at Sector 105 here while trying to escape from the clutches of a police team from Nabha.

The deceased’s mother alleged that her son did not try to escape. “He was forcibly taken along by the police and they threw him from the gallery. They (the police) are claiming that he jumped off to avoid his arrest. It is a lie. My son was brave and he loved his family; he couldn't have jumped,” said Kamlesh Kaur. She claimed that there was no need for her son to run from the police as he was acquitted in all cases registered against him.

Raising doubts over the intention of the police, Babla's kin said the police team had entered the address as flat number 801 in the entry register while their flat number was 804. Meanwhile, the Mohali police have started inquest proceedings. —TNS
