It’s official, PU to decide on Sept 7

The Panjab University Campus Student Council (PUCSC) elections will be held on September 7. With this announcement, the stage is set for 14 student parties to contest the poll.

Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover announced the date of the elections after receiving a formal approval from the UT Administration today. 

The VC said he would hold a meeting with the student parties to discuss the code of conduct and its implementation on the campus. He said the student parties had themselves drafted the code of conduct, which they would follow.

He said students who did not fulfil the attendance criterion would not be allowed to contest the elections. Those who took late admission with special permission from the VC would not get any relaxation regarding the attendance condition for the elections. 

PU DSW Navdeep Goyal said the counting would start at 2 pm. He said the counting would be held at the centralised counting centre on the campus.  

Election schedule

September 2 

  • Filing of nominations: 9.30 am to 10.30 am
  • Scrutiny of papers to begin at: 10.31 am
  • Display of list of candidates: 12 noon
  • Filing of objections: 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm
  • Provisional list of candidates to be displayed at DSW office: 2.30 pm 

September 3 

  • List of approved candidates: 10 am
  • Withdrawal of candidature: 10.30 am to 12 noon
  • Display of final list of candidates: 3 pm 

September 7 

  • Polling: 9.30 am
  • Ballot boxes to be collected at gymnasium hall: 11 am
  • Results of DRs to be displayed in the departments: 12 noon
  • Counting of votes: 2 pm 

September 9

Result of DRs to be sent to the DSW office: 12 noon

September 14

  • Elections to the Executive at Physics Dept auditorium: 11 am
  • 14,000 voters 

There are around 14,000 voters in the university. They will be allowed entry to their department on the polling day till 9.45 am. 

14 parties in fray

This time, there are 14 student parties in the fray for the elections. 

Executive Committee comprises 

  • President
  • Vice-president
  • Secretary
  • Joint secretary
  • Five other members

The four office-bearers include president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary, who are elected directly by the students. Five members of the Executive Committee will be elected by members of the student council.

NOTA option

The “None of the Above (NOTA)” option will be included in student council ballot papers.
