Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora today said the role of Pakistani agency ISI in the incidents of sacrilege could not be denied. Some of the cases have been solved and the culprits put behind bars. In-depth probe into the matter was on.

On the murder of RSS leader Brig Jagdish Gagneja, he said the matter had been handed over to the CBI, but the Punjab Police was also conducting a probe into it. The culprits would soon be put to task.

Asked about the rising number of gangsters in the state, he said, “We had conducted a special drive against the gangsters and it was a success. We have confiscated properties related to drug mafia worth Rs. 270 crore. Yet, I feel there is a need of more strict laws on gangsters.” On dope tests during recruitment, he said, “There were 5 lakh applicants and out of them 4.75 lakh appeared in the recruitment process and were tested for drugs. Only 5,000 of them were tested positive but they were given a second chance.” — OC
