Mandi, February 14

The roads between Keylong-Gaimur, Keylong-Dalang and Udaipur-Jahalama in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti have opened for vehicular traffic.

These roads were blocked since January 24 because of heavy snowfall. The Border Roads Organisation has connected 25-km-long stretch between Udaipur-Jahalama.

Jahalama gram panchayat pradhan Surender said the road was connected up to Jahalama, 2 km ahead. People were demanding flight service at the Barring helipad to move out of the district, where only one flight was conducted since the closure of the Rohtang Pass, he remarked.

BRO Commander AK Awasthi said the workforce deployed for clearing snow was facing a huge difficulty to remove snow from the road.

“The road between Satingri-Keylong-Tandi has been connected, while efforts were on to clear snow on the Shinkula-Kelar-Thirot-Tandi road for traffic movement,” he remarked.

According to Lahaul Spiti Deputy Commissioner Vivek Bhatia, the situation in the Lahaul valley was now returning to normalcy. The power supply had been restored to major parts of the district, including Miyar valley, while efforts were on to restore power supply to Tindi.

The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the BRO and said the district administration was in touch with the BRO to ensure speedy clearance of snow from roads in the valley.
