Dehradun, January 8

The FIS International Skiing Championship, which was scheduled to be held at Auli from January 15 to 21, has been postponed to February 18.

Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj said the decision had been taken following the recommendation of JS Dhillion, Chairman, Winter Games Federation of India.

“The state has not received adequate snowfall so far. Even artificial snow made with the help of a machine had been melting,” said the minister.

Yesterday, a technical committee inspected the slopes at Auli and concluded that the conditions were not favourable for holding the international championship. Chief Minister TS Rawat and Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar had also visited the site.
