Dehradun, December 24

The youth living in the disaster-hit areas of the state will get sports facilities and physical training in their own region. Sports Department is planning to develop 25 sports grounds in five hilly districts of the state. These stadiums will be constructed in the areas above 1,500 metres in Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi and Bageshwar districts.

Till now, youngsters come to the district headquarters or Dehradun for sports training. But after the construction of the stadiums, youngsters in the disaster-hit areas will get coaching for sports competitions and physical training for Army and police tests.

The department is planning to appoint ex-servicemen through the Sainik Kalyan Department to train the youth. Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh will be spent on construction of each ground.

“The Sports Department has prepared a project to develop sports grounds in the higher reaches of the state, especially in the disaster-hit areas so that the youth can get professional training in their area. The department will soon send the proposal to the government. As soon as the project is passed, we will start the work,” said Sailesh Bagoli, Director, Sports Department.
