Illegal mining: 3 JCB machines impounded, owners penalised

NURPUR: The Nurpur police team led by DSP Navdeep Singh today impounded three JCB machines for illegal mining on the Chakki riverbed in the Khanni area of Nurpur subdivision.

The Nurpur police team led by DSP Navdeep Singh today impounded three JCB machines for illegal mining on the Chakki riverbed in the Khanni area of Nurpur subdivision.

As per the information, two JCB machines were found indulged in an illegal mining activity while the third one was carrying raw material to a stone crusher.

The DSP said the machines were impounded and challaned under the Mining Act and Rs 75,000 had been realised as penalty from the owners. He added that the JCB machines were impounded with a warning that henceforth, if any such earth excavating machine was found doing illegal mining activity, it would be confiscated by the police.

Meanwhile, Kangra SP Sanjiv Gandhi said the police would first target heavy machines used for mining activities on riverbeds in the district for curbing this menace with an iron hand.
