Muktsar, May 23

Officials of the Excise and Taxation Department today raided the liquor godown of Gaurav Malhotra & Co —owned by Gaurav Malhotra, son of liquor baron-cum-SAD MLA from Faridkot Deep Malhotra — located near the Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner’s (AETC) office here and seized 327 cartons of country liquor stocked illegally.

The godown was sealed on Saturday following a complaint of the illegal sale of country liquor. The excise sleuths, including the AETC, ETO (Excise), today took the count of the liquor stock and found a huge quantity of country liquor of ‘Khasa’ brand stocked there.

Inder Mohan Singh, AETC, Muktsar, said, “We have seized above 300 cartons of ‘Khasa’ brand of country liquor stocked in the godown. The liquor firm can’t stock this brand as per rules. They are the manufacturers of two other brands of country liquor and can stock only those.”

He said, “Besides, we are tallying the stock available in the godown with their registers and our records. The firm owners have been told to produce their liquor permits and other records as well.”
