The stone laid by SAD Balluana MLA Gurtej Singh Ghuriana at Gobindgarh village for a scheme to lift pond water has courted controversy. On the stone, which was laid on Saturday, it was engraved that Ghuriana laid the foundation in the presence of Istri Akali Dal circle president Jagdish Kaur Neetu.

The village panchayat led by sarpanch Hardev Singh objected to it claiming that Zila Parishad member Ravinder Kaur Sekhon and Sarpanch Hardev Singh besides other members of the panchayats were ignored.

The pumping system has been installed at the cost of Rs 18 lakh to drain out water from the pond.

Hardev said there had been no practice in the past to engrave names of individuals or political activists who do not have any administrative authority.

“We will bring it to the notice of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, besides Istri Akali Dal president Jagir Kaur and demand action against those who had insulted the elected panchayat and Zila Parishad officials,” he said.

However, Ghuriana claimed that it was the prerogative of the officials of the Drainage Department to get stones for development schemes prepared. He refused any role in getting her name added.
