Babbu is busy preparing for his second inning, working day and night to see himself being launched as a singer. This soft-spoken songwriter made inroads in the Punjabi music industry when he wrote the song Yaar Anmulle, sung by Sharry Mann. Every singer wanted Babbu to sit down and write for them, which he did with all his heart, but now the Chandigarh-based young man has his heart set on something new….He talks effortlessly, still leaving a mysterious trail in his words. You think you know him well, but this ‘calling spade a spade songwriter and ‘soon to be a singer’ spins a surprise

Dream calling

I am preparing to be a singer, hopefully if everything falls in place, I will be able to create a niche for myself in this place.

The defining moment

When I wrote Yaar Anmulle, the song changed everything for me.

What will I be

I never decided or worked towards being a songwriter, it just happened, and now I will be singing. This again happened just like that. Next, let’s see…

My first love

I want to give an equal attention to my lyrics and to my singing. I don’t want to write well, and not sing well. I want to be doing both with equal dedication.

Training, a necessary evil?

A basic training in any field is always a great help. But, I don’t think one has to go through the rigmarole of training. Some natural talents just need to be shown a direction.

Grow up people!

Groupism is a thing that I don’t like about this music industry. Even those who are part of the group are not dedicated to each other.

Me, superstitious?

No, I am not at all superstitious, however sometimes when I am unable to write a song for days together, I pray to rabb to guide me, and magically then song is finished in minutes.

Personally speaking

I think the audience gives looks or personality of a singer more importance than the talent. So, a singer has to really work hard on their looking good bit!

‘Look’ who is working!

Sometime a singer with great singing talent might not get precedence of the looks, and it can work other way around too. It is difficult to judge.

Read me a book

It might sound strange that I always go back to the writings of three poets; one is Shiv Kumar Batalvi, Warish Shah and Bashir Badar.
