Ambala, February 6

Peeved over the exclusion of the Sikh regiment in the Republic Day Parade, the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) has called a meeting in Chandigarh on February 16 to discuss the further course of action.

French President Francois Hollande was the chief guest at this year’s Republic Day parade.

HSGMC chief Jagdish Singh Jhinda told The Tribune today Sikh organisations and retired officials of the Jat and Sikh regiments had been invited for the Chandigarh meeting. “Retired officials of the ranks of captain, subedar and nayak have confirmed to attend the meeting.”

Jhinda said, “The BJP says it was not the first instance of the Sikh regiment missing from the parade. The Centre missed an opportunity to show the worth of Sikhs and their turban to Hollande.”

Sikhs in France have been facing problems, including a ban on turban.
