Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU) will start its own campus classes at Hamirpur. Sources said the university authorities had urged the district administration to provide accommodation to run the classes. The offices of HPTU were accommodated in the old SDM office building which was vacated a few years ago. The sources revealed that the HPTU had decided to start with MCA and MBA classes here in a makeshift accommodation which would be later shifted to the HPTU campus being constructed at Daruhi village near here.

The HPTU had over 25 institutions affiliated with it and have over 7,000 seats in various disciplines, but the university is yet to start its own classes due to non-availability of accommodation. RL Sharma, Vice Chancellor of HPTU, said the university would start its first batch from the current session in two courses, including MBA and MCA, with 60 seats in each. He said a request had been made to the Deputy Commissioner and hoped that the university would soon get a suitable accommodation for running the classes.
