Housing scheme for MIG category soon

In a relief to those belonging to the middle-income group (MIG), the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has decided to launch a scheme to provide affordable houses to those earning Rs 12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh per annum under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Sources said under the scheme, houses will be provided three times less than the market price.

The sources further added that the board would hold a survey to identify the people eligible for the scheme. The forms will be available at the CHB office and on the official website of the board.

The number of flats will be decided after considering the response to the survey. Notably, the Chandigarh Administration has appointed the CHB as the nodal agency for the implementation of the scheme.

Under the scheme, two categories of MIG houses (MIG and MIG 1) will be constructed. The residents having the annual income from Rs 6 to 12 lakh will be eligible for the MIG houses while those having the annual income from Rs12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh will be eligible for the MIG 1 category houses.

The cost of an MIG house will be Rs 15 lakh while that of an MIG 1 house will be Rs 21 lakh.

The CHB has earlier fixed Rs 3 lakh as the eligibility for applying for EWS houses and Rs 3 lakh and Rs 6 lakh for the lower income group (LIG) category.

The cost of a flat for the LIG category will be Rs 10 lakh while it will be half the amount for the EWS category. Residents living in urban areas of Chandigarh are eligible to apply. They must be residents of Chandigarh as on 17.6.2015, having the Aadhar/voter identity card. They should not have a house/residential plot anywhere in India.
