Hit by car, man succumbs to injuries after 10 days

Chandigarh, July 27

Almost 10 days after three persons standing on a pavement near their house on the road separating Sectors 31 and 32 were seriously injured after being hit by a car, one of the injured succumbed to his injuries today. The accused driver was in an inebriated condition.

Sources said that Darshan Lal (45) succumbed to his injuries today. Amit Kumar, Raj Dev Gupta and Darshan Lal were standing on the pavement when a speeding Maruti car hit them from the rear side. The car further hit a Maruti Swift and a scooter parked on the roadside.

The victims were neighbours and residents of Sector 32. Darshan Lal had sustained injuries on the stomach and the head. 

The incident had led to high drama by the residents of the area who staged a protest. A police force had to be called to the spot to pacify the agitated crowd that was not allowing the police vehicles to leave.

The accused driver was Deepak Kumar of Bapu Dham Colony in Sector 26.
