Jat leaders today rejected a district administration’s proposal for dialogue. They said they were not authorised for the district-level talks, as the central committee of the Akhil Bharatiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (ABJASS) had already expressed its eagerness for talks with the state government.

An administrative official called up state ABJASS spokesperson Rambhagat Malik to discuss their demands. He, however, said the samiti did not have district-specific demands so there was no point talking to the district authorities.

Meanwhile, the dharna continued in the district’s Mayyar village for the second day today. The police and paramilitary forces kept a watch on the developments.

The district authorities were relieved that dharna had been going on peacefully. The strength of security forces was reduced at some places in view of the peaceful agitation.

State ABJASS president Satbir Punia said Jats were in no mood of confrontation and ready to cooperate with the government.
