Dehradun, July 20

The Uttarakhand High Court on Friday directed the state government to establish a trauma centre equipped  with essential equipment  in each district within  a period of three months.

In its judgment, the Division Bench of Justice Rajiv Sharma and Justice Lok Pal Singh directed that the centres be established according to the Indian Public Health Standards norms.

The Division Bench noted that accidents claim a number of lives every year and leave several victims physically disabled.

“The victims of accidents and other emergency cases are required to be treated immediately and for that purpose, we must have trauma centre in each district,” said the judges.

The wide-ranging judgment, which  sought to direct the state government to improve medical infrastructure in government hospitals in Kumaon, also requested the Ministry of Health and  Family Welfare  to release a special health package to the hill states to maintain and improve public health in a phased manner.

Further, the  government was also ordered to start a multispeciality hospital at the Bhowali TB Sanatorium within a period of six months from Friday and  a cardiac care unit at BD Pandey District Hospital.
