Ambala, April 26

A distressed Army jawan met Health Minister Anil Vij here today and appealed to him to help him in finding his mother. Vij was holding Janta Darbar.

Joginder, who belongs to Sonepat district, is at present posted in Jammu and Kashmir. He told the minister, “Around 10 days ago, my mother and other persons protested against a liquor shop in the village. The police detained them and did not allow us to meet them. I am not aware about whereabouts of my mother.”

He said, “Some people threatened my wife for approaching the police and protesting against the liquor shop. I called up the Sonepat MP for help, but he refused to intervene. The Ganaur SHO misbehaved with me and accepted my complaint only on the SP’s orders. I want to ask the administration and the state government that who will take care of the families of Army jawans.”

The police had been harassing his family and no one was listening to them, he alleged. After receiving the complaint, Vij called up the Sonepat SP and directed him to take action.

Military police officials reached the spot and took Joginder with them. — TNS
