Heavy rain alert issued in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, May 31

District authorities have begun to speed up rescue and relief operations in Tehri district of Uttarakhand after flash floods in the area due heavy rain lashing the city for two days.

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted thunder squall and hail at isolated places, especially Nainital. It however said on Tuesday the weather would clear up in the next four days.

In Tehri, the district administration is providing financial assistance to those affected and is also moving them to safer places.

All circuit roads that were blocked due to rain and consequent landslide in have been reopened for traffic.

Several places in Tehri and Uttarkashi districts reported damage to life and property in the heavy rain.  About 700 people in eight villages under Ghansali tehsil of Tehri have been affected by flash floods and 110 houses have been reportedly been damaged. One person and 34 cattle heads have been reported washed away in the floods.

In Chinyalisaur and Dunda tehsils of Uttarkashi, three people are reported missing and one person died in the incident.

Meanwhile all the Char Dham roads are open and the yatra continues smoothly. — ANI
