HC breather for pvt bus operators

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today allowed transporters to continue their operations as per the permits allotted to them by the Haryana government in accordance with the new transport policy.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court today allowed transporters to continue their operations as per the permits allotted to them by the Haryana government in accordance with the new transport policy.

The Bench also issued notice to Haryana on a plea filed by New Jagdamba Cooperative Transport Authority of Kaithal and other petitioners. They were apprehending closure of their business by the state under pressure from the roadways employees’ union.

“On asking of the court, notice has been accepted by Gaurav Jindal, Additional Advocate-General, Haryana. Meanwhile, the petitioners will be permitted to ply the vehicles as per the terms of the permit”, Justice M M S Bedi asserted.

The petitioners told the court that despite valid bus permits, the state government was not allowing them to ply buses under pressure from the roadways. union. They added around 30,000 buses were required to cater to passengers in Haryana but the government had only 3,000 buses.
