Chandigarh, March 2

Health Minister Anil Vij on Thursday said the government is mulling to make two years service in the state's hospitals compulsory for students completing their MBBS from Haryana.

Replying to a question raised by Congress MLA Kiran Chaudhary in the Assembly's ongoing Budget session, he said the proposal is being legally examined and if implemented, there would be no shortage of doctors in the state.

The state has issued an advertisement to recruit of 662 doctors to meet requirements at government hospitals and till now has received 1,800 applications. The selection process would begin soon, he informed.

Vij also informed the House that the government had repealed the British-era law that stopped doctors from being posted in their home district.

The health department has also decided to make the process of transfers for doctors online from next month to meet requirements in hospitals, he said. — PTI
