Harmehtab held in Haridwar

Seven days after the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister’s nephew was run over by a BMW car, the Chandigarh Police managed to arrest one of the accused, Harmehtab Singh Fareed, from Haridwar in the wee hours of today. The other accused is still at large and the BMW car used in the crime is yet to be traced.

Akansh Sen (28), nephew of Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, was run over by a BMW car in Sector 9 on February 9.

According to the police, the accused, Balraj Singh Randhawa a resident of Sector 77, Sohana, Mohali, was allegedly driving the BMW car while Harmehtab Singh, a resident of Radewala Farm, Landran, Mohali, was sitting next to him when the incident took place.

Eish Singhal, SSP, UT, said the accused was arrested from outside an ashram in Haridwar this morning.

The police said the accused, great grandson of a former Chief Minister of PEPSU state, was trying to escape from Haridwar when he was caught. Fareed’s anticipatory bail was rejected by a local court yesterday.

The SSP said the accused was yet to be questioned about the sequence of events. “We are yet to investigate about the phone number used by the accused while he was on the run,” said a police official. Police sources said old enmity between accused Randhawa and Akansh’s friend Shera led to the an argument after which Akansh was run over by the accused.

11 persons had a party at Deep Sidhu’s house

Eleven persons, including three girls, had another party at Deep Sidhu’s house number 165 in Sector 9 before the incident.

The 11, who were parting at clubs, including Boombox Café and F Bar, reached house number 165, for another party where they reportedly took liquor. Victim’s friend Shera and accused Randhawa then had an altercation.
