Harish Rawat, Sikkim CM discuss projects for development

Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling met his Uttarakhand counterpart Harish Rawat here last evening and discussed issues concerning development in both the states.

Harish Rawat talked about various development schemes launched by his government for the overall development in the plain and hill areas.

He talked about initiatives being taken by the state government to develop infrastructure for tourism, adventure tourism and micro hydel projects, besides various schemes in the social sector. He added efforts were being made to provide better health facilities to the people of the hill areas.

Chamling said his state had been self-sufficient in the production of rice and tourism had been thriving. Sikkim received double the number of tourists than its population during the year, he added.

He said the state had banned use of plastic, crackers and killing of wild animals and efforts were on to promote eco-friendly and village tourism.

Chamling said they offer free education up to graduation level and floriculture had been taken up in a big way to develop economic well being of the people.

He invited Harish Rawat to visit Sikkim.Chamling was presented with a replica of the Kedarnath temple as a souvenier.
