Haridwar Gymkhana won the maiden Rising Cup (U-17) tournament defeating GPCC by 4 wickets at the Panna Lal Bhalla Inter College ground here today.
Eight teams participated in the maiden tournament organised by Rising Star Club.
In the final match, Haridwar Gymkhana won the toss and opted to field owing to overcast weather conditions and smooth wind blowing from the pavilion end side.
GPCC openers Aman Deep (25) and Rakesh (44) successfully fended of the seam and swing advantage that Haridwar Gymkhana bowlers had and steadied the innings till the 8th over.
Later Ashu with a swashbuckling 22 ensured the team score crosses 150 runs in 18 overs.
Haridwar Gymkhana bowlers Shubham Pundit took 3 wickets, Mukul and Anmol two each while Shobhit Sharma took one wicket.
In reply, Haridwar Gymkhana opening batsmen Amol Barthwal (50) and Ayush Vasisth (48) gave a good start to their team with both hitting sixes and boundaries at will. Later Subhuam Pundit (19) and Dev Joshi (15) ensured a 4-wicket victory for Haridwar Gymkhana with two overs to spare.
Chief guest Inder Mohan Barthwal, general secretary of the Cricket Association of Haridwar, gave away the prizes to the winning team and other players.
Barthwal said two international class stadiums of Rs 100 crore each were being constructed at Raipur in Dehradun and Haldwani. These would help in organising international, national and domestic cricket matches and tournaments.
He urged players to devote sufficient time to physical activities, yoga, practice and also watching live cricket footage of Indian team players, as this would give them wide and analytical knowledge of the sport.
Rohan Sehgal, a representative of Haridwar MP Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, declared Subham Pundit as the man of the match and Aman Deep as man of the series.
