Even before the eye contact you make hair contact, believes Taniya Naz, a celebrity hairstylist, who picked up the profession 16 years ago when it was hardly differentiated from being a barber or worker at a beauty parlour.

Although it was hard convincing her family, this girl knew that in ‘hair’ lay her calling. “I have cut, coloured and styled my mane right from when I was 13,” she says, making everybody envious of her mane. She makes sense when she says style your hair fine and the rest just falls in place! And trending this season is short, fuss-free hair. “But coming up North, women like to maintain the length,” says Taniya who runs two salons - one in Pune and another in Mumbai - that boasts of a fair share of celeb footfall. “Go shoulder-length if you want to be trendy. Style them a little lazy, a bit on the side for the just-out-of- the-bed look. About colours, go safe. It’s about time that we all have realised that reds and browns go best with Indian complexion. So out is blonde, which gives nightmares when actual hair start showing.”

She makes a case for red tints like mahogany. Now in order to style your hair right, one needs to keep them healthy and strong too. And, that’s precisely the purpose of her visit to Chandigarh on Wednesday afternoon. She launches India’s first-ever oil-based crème hair colour, Godrej Nupur Coconut Henna Crème Hair Colour, supposedly infused with the nourishment of coconut oil and conditioning of natural henna. This formula is supposed to give you the crème texture sans any ammonia or chemicals. “You smell this preset mixture; you wouldn’t feel any chemical fumes but coconut oil aroma. And post the wash you will be left with this oily feel that you wouldn’t find in any other hair colour,” she says. Available in four natural colours - black, natural brown, dark brown and burgundy - its one-time use pack, available for Rs 39, is a blessing for henna lovers who want to try colouring the safe way.

As for hair trending, she asks you to watch out for Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut. “Priyanka really dares to change her hair and rocks in both short as well as long length. Kangana really manages to tame her rather tough mane and looks as pretty with her curls left loose or tied up in a bun.”
