The state government has constituted the State Admission and Fee Committee headed by Raj Rahul Garg, a former Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, to check fleecing of students by private technical institutes across Haryana . The committee is mandated to regulate admission and fees in private technical institutions, sources said.

Acting on complaints about alleged irregularities in the admission process and ‘overcharging’ by private institutes, the Khattar Government seeks to put in place a mechanism to regulate admissions and fees.

Suman Kumar Aggarwal, Anil Kumar Pundir, Registrar of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, and Suresh Kumar, Professor in Department of Electronic Science, Kurukshetra University, are other members of the committee while the Director General (Technical Education) will be its member-secretary, sources said.

Currently, there is hardly any institutional mechanism to check irregularities in private technical institutes at the state level though the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) regulated the functioning of private institutes at the central level. In the absence of a state-level body, irregularities in admission and payment of fees were rampant in these institutes.

Haryana Technical Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma asserted that the BJP Government was committed to streamlining technical education in the state and provide affordable education. “Any irregularities in the functioning of technical education, including overcharging by private technical education, will be curbed with a heavy hand,” Sharma warned.
