Horticulture Minister Subodh Uniyal has said that the state government will form a new policy to promote cultivation of herbs and aromatic plants.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the Department of Horticulture, Uniyal said that though several schemes had been launched, a separate policy was required for promoting the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants. He said the department had received suggestions from farmers in this regard.

The state government has started few schemes such as Mukhya Mantri Sankul Vikas Yojana and Atal Jadi Buti Vikas Yojana. Further, the government is also setting up small marketing centres at strategic locations for the farmers.

The government has set up a target of engaging 25,000 farmers in this activity, “We will announce minimum support price for the herbal produce soon,” said Uniyal.

Farmers also urged the minister to ensure measures under MGNREGS to protect crops.
