Principal of Dharamsala Government College RP Chopra today lodged a complaint of molestation of a student with the district police.

In his complaint to the police, the principal maintained that the sister of a student of the college came to her and reported that her sister had been molested and the police should inquire into the incident.

Interestingly, the principal, who admitted that he had heard rumours of gang rape, had been maintaining for the past three days that no such incident had happened.

The principal had to change his stand today after college students gheraoed him in his office. Girl students demanded an inquiry into the matter and alleged that efforts were being made to hush up the matter.

ASP, Kangra, Shalini Agnihotri, when contacted by newsmen, admitted that a complaint of the principal had been received.

Though rumours of gang rape of a girl had been doing the rounds in Dharamsala for the past three days, no complaint was filed with the police in this regard. The college authorities initially denied that any such incident had happened.

There were rumours that the injured girl was admitted to the Tanda medical college. However, the medical college authorities also denied that any such student was admitted there.

Students and activists of the ABVP demanded that the principal should come clean over the issue.

It was a serious misconduct on the part of the college authorities if a complaint of molestation of a student was being hushed up.
