GoM recommendations to be submitted to Gadkari

The third meeting of the Group of Minister’s on Road Safety and Ease of Transport concluded at Dr Rajendra Prasad Govt Medical College (DRPGMC), Tanda, today.

A dozen of recommendations were made during the meeting which will be submitted to Union Minister for Surface Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari in the form of a report within two days.

Transport Minister of Rajasthan Yunus Khan, who is also the chairman of Group of Minister’s on Road Safety, and state Transport Minister GS Bali said addressed a gathering on the culmination of the meeting.

They said a total of 34 recommendations of the two conferences earlier held at Bangalore and Delhi coupled with the dozen recommendations of the Kangra conference would be presented to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari within two days.

They said these recommendations could be included in the draft of the revised Motor Vehicle Act before it was presented in Parliament during the monsoon session.

They said the main issues discussed were strengthening of trauma centres for improved medical treatment of road accident victims, toll payments through RFID card, facilities of uninterrupted transportation for load carrier vehicles and easy procedure of taxi permitting.

Yunus Khan and GS Bali said suggestions were sought for improving rural transport, improvement in taxi and other public transport parkings in the urban area and steps to encourage e-rickshaw, two wheeler taxies and seat sharing.

Khan said in order to highlight road safety problems faced by hill people, a sub-committee has been constituted which will be chaired by Transport Minister GS Bali. The subcommittee will submit its report to the Government of India after assessing transport situations and its challenges in the hill states. Bali said that the newly constituted subcommittee would hold its meeting shortly.

Bali said Transport Ministers of Jharkhand, Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Meghalaya, Telangana, Mizoram, Bihar, Chhatisgarh, Vice-Chairman, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes and MLA Ravi Thakur, Secretary, Ministry of Surface Transport Sanjay Mitrad and Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development JS Mathur participated in the conference.
