GND University pip Patiala varsity to win football c’ship

PATIALA: Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, won the first All-India Inter-University American Football Championship that is being conducted under the banner of the Association of Indian Universities with the support from the United basketball Alliance and the Elite Football League of India Ltd at Punjabi University, Patiala, under the chairmanship of Dr Raj Kumar Sharma, Director, Sports.

Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, won the first All-India Inter-University American Football Championship that is being conducted under the banner of the Association of Indian Universities with the support from the United basketball Alliance and the Elite Football League of India Ltd at Punjabi University, Patiala, under the chairmanship of Dr Raj Kumar Sharma, Director, Sports.

Vice-Chancellor of the host university Dr Jaspal Singh gave away prizes to the winning teams. EFLI president Tausif I Shaikh, vice-president Deepesh Solanki, American coach Mark Philamore were honoured by the host university. Deputy director Gurdeep Kaur, assistant director Mohinder Pal Kaur, Dr Dalbir Singh Randhawa and coach Dal Singh Brar were among those others present. In the final contest of the American football today, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, beat Punjabi University, Patiala, 19-14.

In the first quarter, the GNDU scored 6 points and Punjabi University scored 7 points. In the second quarter, the GNDU scored 6 points and in the third quarter, both teams didn’t score any point.

In the last quarter, both teams scored 7 points each.

MDU Rohtak beat Osmania University and gained the third position. In flag football, Jaipur National University won the first position by beating Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, 32-6. JERC University, Jaipur, won the third position by beating Siksha O Anunsandhan University, Bhubaneshwar.
