Mohali, April 27

Vigilance sleuths today arrested two GMADA officials -- a superintendent and a peon -- while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 35,000 from a local resident for issuing a no-objection certificate here.

They have been identified as Narinderpal Singh, superintendent, and Karam Singh, both deputed in the GMADA Estate Office. According to Inspector Inderpal Singh of the Vigilance Department, both of them were nabbed in the GMADA office after laying a trap on a complaint of Nasib Singh Sandhu.

Sandhu, who lives in Sector 66 in a rented accommodation, wanted to get a NOC for his newly constructed house at Sector 78.  The accused demanded Rs 50,000 to get his work done and the deal was settled at Rs 35,000. The Vigilance swung into action after getting a complaint from Sandhu and laid a trap. Both will be produced in a court tomorrow.
