Haridwar, July 6

Members of the Sheetal Paryavaran Jan Jagriti Samiti organised a mass plantation drive here yesterday.

A meeting was held at Valmiki Colony, Ram Krishan Mission, Kankhal, in which recent climatic changes and weather conditions were discussed.

Committee president Sheetal Chanchal said the emission of green house gases from household, commercial and factories had led to rise in global warming, which was the main reason behind indifferent climatic pattern in the world.

Urging people to plant saplings to increase green cover, Sheetal said without environment conservation, no development would be fruitful for a longer course of time.

Vice president of the committee Sanjay Chaudhari said the society had been working towards environment issues as a result of which plantation drive was being carried out.

He said logging of trees by government departments in the name of urbanisation or industrialisation did not bode well for the ecology. — TNS
