Gita shobha yatra halts traffic in Panipat

The ‘Gita Shobha Yatra’ organised by the district administration to mark the end of three-day long Gita Jayanti Mahotsav led to heavy traffic jam on National Highway 1 today.

The procession started from Sai Chowk in Sector 12 and concluded at Shivaji Stadium in Model Town. The traffic was stopped at Babail Naka on Panipat-Haridwar highway, Eight Marla at Jatal road and naka at Assandh road. The police also halted traffic on NH-1 before the Sanjay Chowk for more than an hour causing traffic jam.

Virender Kumar, a resident of Delhi, rued, “I was held up for one-and-a-half hour in the traffic jam.”

The district authorities also banned three wheelers in the city forcing commuters to walk on foot for kilometers. Suresh Kumar, a resident of Kutani, said, “I had to walk over two kilometers to reach the city.”

3-day fest ends

The three-day district level Gita Jayanti Mahotsav concluded here today. Swami Gyananand presided over the function.
