In a rare case, a girl was arrested today for impersonating her mother during a biannual Class XII examination. The police identified the accused as 19-year-old Nazam Parveen, daughter of Bagh Hussain, a resident of Saim Samat in the Thanamandi tehsil of Rajouri. She was taking the examination at Government Higher Secondary School, Saj.

Iftikhar Talib, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Thanamandi, said on the information that a girl was impersonating another candidate in the examination, a police party headed by inspector Surinder Singh, SHO, Thanamandi police station, checked the examination centre and apprehended the girl.

“During investigation, it was established that she was a student of 2nd year in a private college at Rajouri and was appearing in place of her mother Parveen Akhter for an education paper,” said the SDPO.

He said the police had arrested the accused girl and a case under Sections 419 and 109 of the RPC had been registered in this regard and further investigation was underway.

The SDPO further said the role of the examination staff would also be investigated as without the active involvement of the staff, the accused couldn’t have appeared in the examination.

When contacted, principal of Government Higher Secondary School, Tanvir Mir, said during checking of the identity cards issued by the education board, an impersonation case was detected and accordingly, the police was informed.

“The mother of the girl is also a Class IV employee in the school and I was not aware that she is appearing in the biannual examination. It is a matter of investigation as to who were the staff members who attested her documents,” said Tanvir.
