Patiala, November 28

Two Patiala youths have died allegedly due to gas leak at their flat in Georgia. The victims have been identified as Jiwan Singh (27) and Sher Singh (21). Jiwan hails from Badanpur village of Samana and Sher Singh is a native of Ratta Khera village and had gone to Georgia one year ago to earn livelihood.

He along with Sher Singh and another youth from Kolkata were working as drivers in a travel company and were staying together in a flat provided by the owner of the company.

As per reports, the trio had slept in the night after returning from work. The company owner got worried when the victims did not reach work the next day. He went to the flat but found it locked from inside. The gates of the flat were forcefully opened after the police reached the spot. They found the trio dead.

Their friend Jassi from Georgia informed that doctors confirmed that they had died of suffocation due to the gas leakage.

Jiwan is survived by his mother, wife and a one-year-old girl child and his death has devastated the family. Jiwan's cousin Rajpreet Singh said his mother had borrowed money to send Jiwan abroad as the financial condition of the family was not good. He further stated that Jiwan had even gone to Germany from Georgia but returned after a few days to join his friends.

Sher Singh is survived by his father and sister. His father works in the village gurdwara. Having lost their sons abroad, the families have now urged the Indian Government to provide financial assistance for bringing back the bodies of their children. They rue that even though they want to bring back their bodies to India at the earliest, they do not have sufficient money for the same.
