Garbage, traffic problems a nuisance

Lack of parking space, frequent traffic jams and dug-up roads are among the major problems being faced by residents living in different colonies under ward number: 1—Rajpur— of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC).

The residents lamented that the absence of traffic police personnel at major intersections was among the main reasons behind the frequent traffic jams, starting from Jakhan to the Mussoorie diversion.

Garbage strewn all around the Jakhan and Rajpur roads worsen the problems of the residents as foul smell emanating from the garbage bin forced residents to avoid the route. They expressed concern over the lack of cleanliness in the colonies of the ward. They demanded that the DMC should take steps for collection of garbage from homes and shops and to dispose it of properly.

Residents said pavements along the Rajpur Road were broken, causing inconvenience to shoppers and shopkeepers. It had become extremely difficult for commuters to walk due to the debris along the roadside.

The condition of traffic lights and streetlights is no better in the ward. The dysfunctional traffic lights cause traffic jams during rush hours and weekends. The residents lamented that it had become difficult for commuters to travel at night due to the dysfunctional streetlights.

Special focus was laid on the cleanliness of the ward. Toilets were constructed and streetlights were repaired on priority. The choked drains were cleaned to overcome the problem of waterlogging in the colonies. Strict instructions have been given to officials to complete all pending construction at the earliest. —Roshan Bala, Councilor of Rajpur
