Haridwar, August 3

The district administration’s claims of providing best facilities at the annual Kanwar fair fell flat when Garhwal Commissioner CS Napalchayal today inspected the area and found arrangements not up to the mark.

Meanwhile, the pi-lgrimage entered the third day today.

Inspecting the mela zone and Kanwar stretch in particular today, Napalchayal found the fair ill-equipped.

On founding garbage, filth and plastic material strewn in the mela zone, Garhwal Commissioner expressed his unhappiness. He directed the mela and Municipal Corporation officials to ensure round-the-clock cleaning of the mela zone.

Napalchayal also ordered spraying of insecticides, cleaning of toilets and adequate lighting at the Kanwar stretch.

Health officials were asked to provide free of cost medicines and ambulance service for the fair.

Also, Department of Jal Sansthan, Payjal Nigam, Irrigation Department and Power Corporation were asked to provide better facilities at the mela zone, Kanwar stretch and the parking lots.

On finding lack of drinking water facilities at parking lots, the Commissioner directed Jal Sansthan officials to provide the facility by tomorrow.

Over the security arrangements made for the Kanwar fair, he expressed satisfaction and sought information from Circle Officer Chandra Mohan over deployment of state police personnel and personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and PAC.
