Fazilka, May 1

Nearly 24 hours after the killing of 39-year-old gangster-politician Jaswinder Singh Bhullar ‘Rocky’ of Fazilka, gangster Jai Pal Singh from adjoining Ferozepur district has claimed through his Facebook post that he had killed Rocky near Parwanoo in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday.

Notably, Parwanoo DSP Pramod Chauhan said on Saturday that one of the assailants had been identified as Jai Pal Singh.

Jai Pal uploaded a collage of Rocky’s pictures on Sunday morning on his Facebook account with a post saying: “Jaswinder Singh @ Rocky of Fazilka was murdered yesterday in Himachal Pradesh. I killed him. Those people who are saying that the murder has been done by Dimpy Chandbhan’s son, I clarify that he could not even give statement in the case of his father’s killing, how can he kill him....... (sic)”

At the end of his Facebook post, he wrote: “The game has just started. Just wait and watch”.

Jai Pal also mocked police as he posted his present location at Kasauli.

Some gangsters — some of who are in jails — uploaded similar messages on Facebook on Saturday claiming the murder and calling it an act of revenge for gangster Gurshaheed Singh alias Shera Khubban’s killing. Some of them had even called Rocky a traitor, accusing him of having engineered the murder of Dimpy Chandbhan. Though Rocky was booked for the murder in 2006, he was acquitted of the charges in 2014.

Police are verifying the authenticity of the gangsters’ alleged Facebook accounts

Rocky was shot dead on Saturday while he was driving down to Chandigarh from Himachal Pradesh around 10.15 am. He was hit in the head. His driver Parampal, despite being injured, had driven the vehicle to the ESI Hospital in Parwanoo and was later referred to the PGIMER, Chandigarh.

Strangely, his guards, Malkit Singh and Ranjeet Singh, who were in another vehicle, had not fired a single shot at the assailants. Rocky’s cousin Harpreet Singh, who was on the rear seat, also escaped unhurt.

Further, the XUV vehicle in which the assailants had come bore a fake registration number plate, found later to belong to an Activa scooter with an Amritsar registration. The police had also recovered a bike with a Haryana number from the spot.

Both Punjab and Himachal Pradesh Police are investigating the murder.

Jai Pal is facing some 40 cases of murder, extortion, kidnapping and robbery registered in Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Jammu.
