The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today sought an apology from Rural Welfare and Panchayat Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa over his statement “endorsing” gang wars in the state.

In a press statement, AAP MLA and Leader of the Opposition HS Phoolka demanded that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh should clarify his stand on Bajwa’s remark that “it’s good that gang wars are happening in Punjab and criminals are killing each other.”

Phoolka said the remark was condemnable and it showed that the government had failed to provide a peaceful environment to the people.

“The gangs have been operating in the state for the past 15 years. Earlier, the Akalis were using them for their political purposes. With the change of guard, the Congress leaders are patronising them,” Phoolka alleged.

He said the state police chief had already admitted before the media that more than 50 gangs were operating in the state.
