Jhajjar, May 27

With the arrest of four persons, the police today claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of mustard looters active in Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan states for the past over a year.

The gang members used to loot the mustard from godowns after holding the watchmen hostage. The police have recovered two country-made pistols from them.

SP Sumit Kuhar said the gang have confessed to 11 such incidents in Punjab and Rajasthan besides Jhajjar, Rewari, Rohtak and Bhiwani districts. The accused are Dharmendra alias Bindri of Bhurja (Palwal), Azad of Patwapur (Rohtak), Vikram and Surjeet of Kalanaur (Rohtak). Two other members of the gang- Manoj and Bablu of Kalanaur - had been brought here from Behrod (Rajasthan) on production warrant.

“The last loot was committed on Rewari road near Kulana village on May 20 when the four accused sneaked into a godown by scaling its outer wall and held the watchman Girdhari Lal hostage in a room. Thereafter, they decamped with hundreds of bags of mustard worth over Rs 10 lakh in tractor-trolleys,” he said.
