Gang of extortionists busted, SI its mastermind

The police have busted a gang of extortionists, including an SI from the IRB and a dismissed constable. The police team, which busted, the gang was headed by SI Avtar Singh from the CIA, Jagraon.

The gang used to implicate innocent persons to extort money from them. Its members include Kamaljeet Singh, alias Kamal, a resident of Aliwal; Gurdeep Singh of New Janta Nagar, Ludhiana; Paramjit Singh, alias Prince, a resident of Giaspura; Rupinder Singh of Dogar Basti, Faridkot; and Sandip Kaur, a resident of Shimlapuri, Ludhiana; SI Manjit Singh (IRB); Jyoti of Leela Megh Singh; and Simarjit Kaur of Sheikhupura.

The modus operandi of the gang was that Simarjit Kaur and Jyoti used to contact rich people on the phone presenting themselves as call girls. Sandeep Kaur posed as a journalist and mastermind SI Manjit Singh (IRB), along with Gurdeep Singh (a dismissed constable), posed as CIA staff.

On receiving a call back from a person, Simarjit Kaur and Jyoti engaged him in a love chat and then arranged a meeting. As planned, the women members travelled to a specific destination. Manjit Singh (IRB) and Gurdeep Singh (dismissed constable) posed as CIA staff and Sandeep Kaur as journalist to extort money from the victim.

The members of the gang, Kamaljeet Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Paramjit Singh, Rupinder Singh and Sandip Kaur, have been arrested by the police. According to the police, they have confessed to their involvement in 15 such crimes. Further investigation is in progress and more disclosures are likely to be made.
