Chandigarh, December 20

A campaign against social segregation of the poor, especially Dalits, will be launched tomorrow.

Initiator of the campaign Patiala Lok Sabha MP Dharamvir Gandhi said the campaign would be launched from Dakonda and Jhambali villages of Patiala district. “There are separate cremation grounds for Dalits in most villages. On my initiative, the Dakonda village panchayat has agreed to have a common cremation ground for all communities,” he said.

“I will give a special grant of Rs 1 lakh each to the villages that have agreed to my appeal to have a common cremation ground for various communities,” he said. “I am also persuading panchayats to do away the custom of having separate dharmshalas for Dalits,” he said.
