Football tourney: IndianOil to face Soldiers Club

IndianOil Football Club, Jalandhar, will face Soldiers International Football Club, Chandigarh, in the opening fixture of the 44th All-India Hot Weather Football Tournament, to be held here from tomorrow.

In all, 12 teams drawn from various states will be seen in action during the week-long tournament. The tournament will be played on the knock out-cum-league basis.

Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam will inaugurate the tournament, while Health and Family Welfare Minister Kaul Singh Thakur will preside over the closing function.

Rajinder Gupta, organising secretary of the tournament, said the other teams include Kovalam Football Club, Kerala, CAG, Delhi, Colaba Young Star, Mumbai, Barsul Youngmen Football Club, Burdwan, West Bengal, Satluj Football Club, Ludhiana, Tamil Nadu Police, Chennai, Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, BSES, Delhi, Himachal XI and the host Mandi XI.

He said two matches would be played every day except on the opening and the closing day. Gupta said it was the second oldest football tournament of North India after Delhi’s Durand Cup. He said the winner and the runners-up would be given trophies and players would be given individual prizes.
