Assistant Commissioner (Grievances and General) Swati Tiwana today directed the factory owners and members of business community to scrupulously follow the laws and regulations against child labour.

She was at Bachat Bhawan here to address a seminar on the child labour. She said no one had the right to exploit the children. Citing provisions of the Children Security Act, she said children up to the age of 14 years could not be engaged in any kind of labour and those between the age of 14 and 18 or those who are medically unfit could not be engaged to work in hazardous conditions.

The objective of the seminar organised by the Child Welfare and Security Department was to create awareness about the government guidelines against child labour.

Tiwana exhorted the industry and trade members not to engage their children in work and provide them with education.

She said the Child Security and Labour Department would conduct raids on factories and commercial establishments to unearth the instances of child labour and strict action would be taken against offenders. Parents forcing their underage children to work would also be punished according to the provisions of the Child Labour Act, she added.
