Amritsar, April 2

Russian airline VIM Avia has got the approval from its government to launch Moscow-Amritsar and Moscow-Mumbai flights, said sources in the Airport Authority of India. They said the Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsia, had allowed VIM Avia to operate scheduled services on various international routes, including Moscow-Amritsar and Moscow-Mumbai.

Charanjit Singh Gumtala, patron, Amritsar Vikas Manch, said Moscow was an international transit hub. Passengers from Amritsar would manage to get connecting flights to London, Frankfurt, Birmingham, Manchester, Canada and other big cities from Moscow.

Meanwhile, Scoot Pte Ltd, a low-cost airline of Singapore Airlines, is expected to kick off its Singapore-Amritsar flight this summer. Airport director Venkateshwar Rao said there was no official confirmation about the new flight to Moscow so far. He, however, confirmed that Scoot would start its flight between Singapore and Amritsar from May.
